What are Macronutrients?


The word “macro” itself defines the term large that is nutrients taken by the body in large quantities. These nutrients are essential because they provide the body with energy which is very essential to work in our daily life.

These nutrients provide the body with energy which is measured in calories, it is essential to take these nutrients in large quantities for the proper functioning of our body.

There are 4 essential macronutrients that are essential for our body:-


These are the macronutrients that are naturally generated from fibers, starch, and sugars. All these are made up of sugar molecules. Further, in the digestion process, these carbohydrates are broken down in the form of glucose, which is further used by the body to generate energy.

break in the digestion process hence are removed in the process of excretion from the body. The nutritionist had divided the carbohydrates into two groups that are complex carbohydrates which contain starch and fibers and simple carbohydrates which include sugar that naturally occurs from fruits and vegetables.

To understand more simple carbohydrates are divided into good carbs and bad carbs. Good carbs are carbohydrates that contain a higher amount of fiber.

These carbohydrates take longer to be broken down in the digestion process in order to form energy for the body and can be found in whole grain wheat or cereals.

Bad carbs are carbohydrates that are artificial or refined and contain a lower amount of fibers. Cookies, cakes, and bakery products are some examples of bad carbs.

Carbohydrates can be found in healthy as well as unhealthy food, such as beans, popcorns, milk, cookies, potatoes, and spaghetti. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy in the body, it fuels the central nervous system and regulates glucose in the body. It also reduces the chances of metabolic syndrome.


These are the substance that keeps the skin healthy by helping the body for getting some vitamins. Fats can be termed as the fuel source of the body. Dietary fats are fats that are essential for the body in order to support cell growth.

It helps the body in absorbing various nutrients that are used to produce various hormones in the body. Cholesterol and some other fatty acids are essential for storing fats in the body.

These fats work as a messenger in the whole body and helping proteins in their work. It is important to take the right amount of fats and excess fats in the body can be extremely unhealthy.

There are two types of unhealthy fats, saturated and trans, these are the fats that are

 solid at room temperature such as butter.

Saturated fats are the fats that are obtained from dairy products and fat meats, excess intake of saturated fat can cause high blood cholesterol and increases the level of bad cholesterol.

So in order to remain healthy, it is important to consume unsaturated fat in your balanced diet.

Eating the fats that are saturated or trans in a lesser amount can probably reduce the chance of heart disease. Food such as avocado, nuts, seeds, boiled soybean, etc is some sources of good fat that can be taken in your balanced diet plan.


Proteins play a vital role in our daily intake of foods as it plays an important role in the growth of our body. One cannot survive without any of the 9 amino acids and protein is the very essential one as it takes part in almost every function of the cell.

Proteins are the building block of one’s life and thus it is very essential in our daily diet. The essence of protein depends on the person’s health and his activities.

Proteins come under the category of macronutrients which means they had to be taken in large quantities. Unlike Fats and Carbohydrates, proteins don’t reserve in our body for any future use.

Foods like Avocado, kiwi, spinach, soybean, etc are very rich in proteins and are usually added to diets. Proteins are very important because they are used as building blocks for skin, muscle, blood, bones, and cartilage.

They are used for many chemical reactions to take place in our body including enzymes and hormones.
